It was recently announced by the Government of São Paulo that the Vivaleite Program will distribute 370,845 liters of milk monthly on the coast of São Paulo, until the end of 2024. The objective of the state program is to combat iron deficiency anemia in children up to 6 years of age and elderly people over 60 years of age. in a situation of social vulnerability. What few know is that the Capernaum Equine Therapy Center also participates in this initiative, that is, in addition to offering a therapeutic experience through interaction with horses for people with disabilities, the institution also expands its reach to help the community in general through transfers of food received through donations or seizures of goods and becoming one of the distribution sites for the state Vivaleite program.

What is the Vivaleite Program?

The Vivaleite Program is one of the main public food security policies in São Paulo. Created with the aim of providing iron-fortified milk to vulnerable populations, it aims especially to combat anemia, a public health problem that significantly affects young children and the elderly. According to a study carried out by the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), in Brazil, one in three children up to 7 years old suffers from anemia caused by a lack of iron.

In this sense, it is important to highlight that the milk provided by the Vivaleite Program plays a fundamental role in the growth and development of children, since its formula is fortified with iron and vitamins A and D. In addition, fortified milk also has benefits for elderly, supporting bone health and providing essential proteins for muscle mass.

Impact on Public Health and Nutrition

Iron deficiency anemia is a serious condition that can compromise the physical and cognitive development of young children, as well as increasing the risk of health complications in the elderly. The enriched milk distributed by the Vivaleite Program contains essential nutrients, such as iron, which are essential for preventing and treating this condition.

By ensuring regular access to nutritious foods such as fortified milk, the state government not only combats anemia, but also promotes better health conditions and quality of life for benefiting families. This could result in reduced hospitalization rates related to malnutrition and improvements in child development.

How does Equo Caparnaum connect to the Vivaleite Program?

Currently, 284 thousand children and elderly people across the state benefit from the action. According to SEDS, the initiative also covers the cities of Bertioga, Cubatão, Guarujá, Itanhaém, Mongaguá, Peruíbe, Praia Grande, Santos and São Vicente in the region. The Capernaum Equine Therapy Center, a few years ago, entered into a partnership with the Program Vivaleite with the aim of providing this benefit to the community in situations of social vulnerability. This partnership ensures that families or individuals who participate in the program through the institution receive adequate nutritional support through the program's milk supply.
